See you Thursday!!
Masterworks: Defining A New Narrative consists of 14 large-scale paintings featuring accomplished artists who, for the last decade or more, have been consistently exploring new narrative directions in painting. Each of the artists have been charged with providing a singular work that could be considered pivotal in their careers, to which they have dedicated considerable thought, time, and skill. Artists featured will include Esao Andrews, Sean Cheetham, Natalia Fabia, Alex Gross, James Jean, Josh Keyes, Mario Martinez, Greg Simkins, Nicola Verlato, Eric White, Aron Wiesenfeld, Martin Wittfooth, and Curating Artist and Author Nathan Spoor and Co-curator Jeff McMillan.
The artists featured in Masterworks are from diverse backgrounds and their work connects a broad spectrum of genres, scenes and movements. Masterworks calls into question what a decade means to an artist, and summarizes the thoughts, theories, and personalities of each painter into one distinct moment. Within each work, the artists’ individual perspective is explored through childhood fantasies, everyday objects, and sensational dreamscapes. Each painting represents a decade of dedication to artistic excellence and creative expertise and signifies the product of a career’s worth of experience into one masterwork. The paintings in Masterworks drift between fantasy and reality while closely examining and disrupting conventional pictorial environments.

My painting for the exhibit, "Hooker Dollhouse" 96" x 60".   It is a commission I have been working ob for a couple years now and is very special to me.

Coinciding with the exhibition is a beautifully designed, 240-page linen hardbound book published by the Museum and Gingko Press. Curator and Author Nathan Spoor has compiled an exceptional volume to accompany the exhibition, which features never before published interviews, artwork and photographs of the artists in their studios. The exhibition will open to the public on Thursday, October 23 from 7pm-10pm. Admission price is $10.   See you Thursday!!

Paintng Albey

Work- in- progress of MY HERO, my brother... Who always took risks and lived life beyond his comfort zone..I want to be like you!

It's crazy how well I remember brother's hands. ...I can stare and paint them for hours #albey #painting #everythingalbey
I know Albert is laughing at me for having to stand on a platform to paint him!  #painting #albey

This is the hardest painting I have ever painted.. but i am so happy to be painting it.. I added a touch of his ashes into the paint. I love you, Albey!
(if you think that's weird or wrong-F- OFF! : )

My father, Andrew, and I would really like to thank you to everyone who came (& attempted to come) to Albert George Fabia 's Celebration of life/Funeral: ALBEY DAY! So sad but beautiful to be able to reflect on such a special soul. I love my brother so so so much.
MOST IMPORTANTLY thank you to all of my and Albert's ...OUR phenomenal friends that helped make this evening happen! I am in awe of everyone for their love, contribution, time and/or hard work. I hope Albert loved it! I think about him every hour of the day. I will never forget this day, I especially can't forget the energy that was on the yacht.. it reminds me that nothing in this world matters but love. Family and friends are everything. I am so happy we were able to spend it together and say farewell.. Thank you all again for all the support! It is truly touching how many people Albey has impacted. I wish more friends and family would have been able to make it, I will be posting photos. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE !!!!!!!!

SELFISH - group show curated by Sean Cheetham

my self portrait,  "Pearhead" 16" x20" oil on panel

Katherine Cone Gallery is pleased to present SELFISH, a group exhibition curated by renowned painter Sean Cheetham. The exhibition includes self-portrait paintings by artists Sean Cheetham, Julio Reyes, Candice Bohannon Reyes, Sergio Sanchez, Wayne Johnson, Kevin Llewellyn, Hollis Dunlap, Sonya Palencia, Jeff Nentrup, Jonathan Hart, EL MAC, Natalia Fabia, Korin Faught, Ryan Cheetham, Kate Savage, Eric Pedersen, Marc Trujillo, Johnpaul Altamirano, Stephen Schirle, and Richard Morris.

The self-portrait has been a popular form of expression ever since man first saw his own reflection. Tragic and triumphant, self-portraits can reveal a telling story. From rags to riches, through sickness and health, from youth to old age, we can witness the changing face of an artist.

Intrinsically linked to identity, the self-portrait ultimately stands to reveal something deeper about the creator- an exploration of self and an examination of one's own conscious thoughts and feelings. At times, an artist feels they must repeatedly create a self-portrait in an effort to further research their inner-self and perhaps search for answers within the painted image. Famous painters from Rembrandt to van Gogh have relied on self-portraiture as a method to intensely study the self through art.

SELFISH showcases the exploration of self-perception through the medium of painting by twenty-one master painters.
Please join us for a reception for the artists
Saturday, May 4th, from 6-9 p.m.
The SELFISH exhibition opens May 4th and will run until June 22nd, 2013.
